I believe

Jeanine Walker performing

in fostering the poetic potential in all of my students.

I teach The Series—Poetry I, Poetry II, Poetry III—where students grow from studying the history of poetry to writing and workshopping their own accomplished pieces.

The next step is Poetry & Publishing, a practical, hands-on approach to placing poems in literary journals. Along the way, my students practice plenty of generative writing and revision in The Four-Minute Poem class and in writing four-minute poems continuously throughout the year.

The Series continues with a yearlong class, Poetic Voice, an 8-person, application-only class that is an opportunity for students to deepen their relationship with the way they put words on the page. The following year is another yearlong class, Jeanine’s Poetry Tutorial, a 4-person class, in which students are very committed to their own and each other’s growth and finish the class with a chapbook ready for publication. JPT year two sees students creating a full-length manuscript. The Scholar Year is a third year of the 4-person class, and we engage in scholarly works, essays about poetry and craft, and longer selections of poems by contemporary poets.

I also work as a poetry coach and do manuscript reviews, and I meet with poets one-on-one for the most personalized experience.

All of the classes described above are online.

Just trying it out? Come to my free, drop-in generative poetry session, also online, hosted on a Wednesday evening every month, usually the last Wednesday. Here, adult poets respond to texts and prompts I provide for 90 minutes of generative writing and discussion.
